Piecemeal Development Proposal leaves Future of Historic Listed Building 'up in the air'

The future of the 18th century listed building that housed the former Windmill pub in Ormskirk is in doubt says ward councillor Cllr Adrian Owens, after the owner proposed splitting the site and building houses on the former bowling green while leaving the former pub up for sale.

Cllr Owens said, “The proposed development of 4 terraced properties on the bowling green has some points in its favour, but I have concerns over the height of the properties. The applicant must also be required to provide some financial assistance to contribute to the upkeep of other local bowling green facilities to compensate for the loss of the current green.”

“However, the most significant concern is the fact that it leaves the future of the listed Windmill pub building up in the air and makes its sale more difficult as land which may be required for car parking for its future use is lost.”

“I have already had to involve council officers after residents approached me concerned about possible deterioration in the roof. This planning application on the bowling green appears to me to make the renovation of the listed building harder to achieve. For that reason, among others, I have called the application in for consideration by the Planning Committee.”
