Time for Council to Pilot Electric Vehicle Use

Adrian has called for the council to take a lead and purchase their first electric vehicles.

Adrian said, “We have installed a Charge Point at the council offices in Ormskirk, yet strangely the council doesn’t have any current plans to purchase electric or hybrid vehicles.”

“Clearly these vehicles aren’t suitable in every role. However, sales of electric cars have increased ten-fold in less than two years. Their lower running costs will help a cash strapped council and they would be suitable for the short journeys made by some officers. It’s time to give them a try when the next suitable vehicle renewal falls due”.

Adrian also highlighted the benefits that the clean emissions from such cars could bring. “We have air pollution issues in parts of the Borough and the council as a community leader should be piloting the use of these vehicles because of the positive contribution they could make to air quality.”
