Many concerned residents will be relieved to hear that the application to convert the former Fat Olive restaurant on St Helens Road into student flats has been refused. Adrian had worked with concerned residents and spoke at the planning committee meeting on their behalf.

Adrian said, "Purpose built student accommodation has its place, and I supported the plans on Church street and at the indoor market which will bring a further 103 student rooms on stream when developed, reliving pressure on housing in the town, but location is crucial and I'm clear that the location here was completely wrong. I'm delighted that the planning committee refused the application."

Adrian continued, "We still urgently need updated data on the number of students requirig accommodation in the town and I am pressing the University and council in this regard."
