Sun shines on project to improve Wigan Road street scape

The sun shone on a team of twenty or so who worked over Friday and Saturday to improve a stretch of landscaping on Wigan Road in Ormskirk. Thanks to people from Midstream; Edge Hill Students Union; local residents and two of the Derby Ward councillors, the area at the junction of School House Green has been much improved.

The project, which was initiated by Adrian, saw more than 25 bags of rubbish removed and around eighty shrubs planted, designed to give all round colour to this prominent 50m stretch of border. The workers were supported by the Ropers Arms who provided sandwiches and the use of their toilets. The corner next to the Ropers Arms was also cleared of overgrown vegetation by the pub landlord and has been planted with new shrubs to match the community project.

Adrian said, “This year I wanted a project that might bring students and the permanent community of Ormskirk together to work jointly on improving an area and the project succeeded in that. We will return in the autumn to plant spring flowering bulbs and I hope that the Students Union will take this area under its wing for ongoing maintenance."
