Every small council commercial unit now let in boost for economy

Adrian, who is responsible for Regeneration and Estates at the council has warmly welcomed news that every one of the council’s small commercial units are now let, as Brighter Future Workshop have opened in the former Shopmobility unit in Ormskirk.

Adrian said that for the first time in several years every one of the smaller units marketed by the council had been taken. “It’s great to see business bouncing back and the rents they pay mean that the council’s income in this section has increased compared to 12 months ago. That will help to soften the impact of spending reductions elsewhere.”

“Businesses come and go, but we work hard to help fledgling businesses as this news shows. It was sad to see Shopmobility close in Ormskirk earlier this year, but I’m delighted that Brighter Future Workshop, our award-winning social enterprise have moved in at Two Saints Place. We worked hard to meet their deadline to open on time and having spoken with Peter Cousins and Jackie Tittle, they seem to be pleased with the start they have made.”

Adrian said that some of the larger, older industrial units still posed problems. “They are not always to a size and format to suit modern industrial needs. That is why we are using some of the extra income we are generating from the small units to demolish some industrial units and then work to replace them with the type of premises demanded by 21st century business.”
